Expert's Recommendations On How To Write A Good Essay

How do you write a good essay? What do the experts have to say about it? If you want to know the answers, here’s what you need in order to write a good essay:

Make a schedule.

Before anything else, you need to be organized – so make a timetable. Create a schedule that you know you can stick to. Also take into account how long each part of the paper might take and construct your time accordingly. If you can give yourself a couple days extra at the end, in case you need them, the better!

Be prepared.

Whatever your essay is, the first part will be researching and preparation. Find all the information you need and write plenty of notes before you begin the writing process.

Create an outline.

Now you can construct an outline for your paper. Work out which information goes together and what you want to include where. Ask yourself what’s relevant and decide which bits you don’t need to include. Then work out how many chapters you will need and which information belongs in each. Have a clear idea of what the purpose of each chapter is and come up with rough title headings.

Write a first draft.

If you want to write a good essay, it is only now that you will start to actually write it! All that preparation will pay off, as it will now be so much easier to start the writing process. You already have the skeleton of your paper, now you just need to build on it. So start off by writing a first draft.

Editing is the key.

The key to a good paper is often in the editing process, so once you have written a first draft, you should write as many more drafts as it takes. Re-read and edit your paper, and as you do so, have clear objectives in mind. You should ask yourself questions like: Could this paragraph flow better? Is this paragraph succinct enough? Have I clearly made my point here? Is this sentence relevant? Is this section saying anything different? Would this quote work better earlier on?

The more you pay attention to the small details, the finer your work will be.

Remember to proofread.

Once you have a final draft, you should proofread it. This time, you want to make sure that your grammar, punctuation, spelling, annotations and the like are all correct. There’s nothing worse than spending hours and hours composing what is a very good paper only to let yourself down at the last hurdle by not proofing properly.
